Description

The Postmas Diamond Mine is a historic, now-inactive open-cast diamond mine in Postmasburg, Northern Cape, South Africa. Discovered in 1918, it is locally famous as Postmasburg’s “Big Hole”. The 45-meter-deep open-cast pit was permanently flooded in 1935 and now serves as a scenic, fish-stocked water feature and local tourist attraction.

While the historical Postmas mine no longer actively produces diamonds, the town of Postmasburg remains a massive, bustling hub for iron ore and manganese extraction.
